Holly's Kitchen

A vegan cookbook app I built for my sister's 40th birthday. 78 recipes, downloadable, made with love.

The Story

My sister Holly turned 40. She's vegan, loves to cook, and deserved something better than another gift card. So I built her a cookbook app - all her favorite recipes in one place, designed just for her.

It's a Progressive Web App, which means she can download it to her phone and use it offline while she's cooking. No ads, no subscriptions. Just recipes.

What I Built

78 vegan recipes across 8 sections - Morning, Bowls & Soups, Mains, World Tour, The Long Table, Experiment, Something Sweet, and Candy Shop.

Features that actually matter when you're cooking: recipe scaling (half, double), a favorites system, personal notes on each recipe, search, and a "Surprise Me" button for when you can't decide what to make.

The Design

Mediterranean-inspired palette - terracotta, olive, cream. Warm and inviting, like a kitchen should feel. The pages have 3D transitions that make it feel like you're flipping through an actual cookbook.

Typography matters here. Cormorant Garamond for the headings gives it that cookbook feel. Inter for the body keeps it readable when you're glancing at instructions with flour on your hands.
